Cage
I rage against the rails of my cage
Cause I know why the bird sings
For memories of a time
When the motto was let freedom ring
But instead we were taught how to kill a mockingbird
Where the wild things are
Where doing good is absurd
Selfishness floats in the solar system
People walk around-insert head in ass,
never knowing what they’ve been missing
I think about what could be and what could have been
Then I sit back and take a sip of this Henn
Because to live free is an unpopular trend
So they put you down, kill your dreams, call in your next of kin
To take away the shell of your past, present, and future
Old wounds bleed angrily requiring suture
Divorce from emotion
Devoid of the pain that comes when put in motion
Anesthesia kicks in and out
Heightening sensitivity to what the haters say
Even knowing they don’t give a damn about you anyway
Regurgitation of the light once thought extinguished
The shine cuts like a knife through anguish
Come to bring a beginning to hope
Because we can no longer trust the catholic church and its pope
Shirking the duties of appointment
Young boys are ravaged mind, body, and soul by his priests
For their wounds there is no ointment
Cornered by predators feasting on the flesh of the innocent
Dummy defense not worth 1 red cent
Government bows its head in deference
While the nation falls to its knees cowed by deficits
Households are fractured
Too many people left behind after the rapture
Facing eternal torment
While progressive ideas lie dormant
Garroted to death in filibuster
Not enough support to muster
When the speaker is full of bluster and no fight
As common people are stripped of their right
For a fair trial and democracy
But tone deaf ears ignore their plea
Those who do good receive no reciprocity
We need to make a change…
